hip hop review via mike ford: loose ends and a review

loose ends and a review

first, some things

- someone please teach scott storch how to dress. i can't explain why, but it seriously bothers me to know that the (arguably) best producer in hip hop can't dress himself. a white tee and aviators? ehhhh. he looks like a ghetto liam gallagher, except he's not british or in oasis so i can't give him a pass. look, i'm not gonna pretend i dress well. but i also dont have the money to drop a mill in jewelry on lindsay lohan. so here we are.

- the new clue tape came out a minute ago. just wanted to shoutout the hottest tracks. fab solo track da boss, beans free and cassidy track libery bell and jeezy and juelz fuck off (beat is raw... juelz is much better with just mixtape verses instead of albums anyway). something else about that tape... game should not name his songs after jay songs. you dissed him, get off his dick.

- this whole shit with Drama and Cannon looks real bad. GA copyright law looks like some real strict shit, so they could be in a lot of trouble for something very small (2 years for even 1 uncleared sample is something i've read). hopefully shit gets straightened out with no issues for them. Free Drama and Cannon.

- in related news, mixunit has taken down all their mixtapes, obviously in light of this whole situation. i certainly hope this doesnt smash the mixtape game for the forseeable future.

- the new fab track that leaked today (diamonds on my chain) is heat. i cant believe they pushed this guy back til february. he could go plat if they drop all the fake RnB songs about girls.

alright, review time. Imma review Serius Jones mixtape from 06 titled "King Me" that he did wit Needlz cuz nothin of merit has dropped in 07 yet and Serius just signed with Luda's DTP label. If you don't know Serius, he's the dude who won the 2nd edition of Fight Klub on MTV2, beating Jin by basically making fun of him for being asian. link here: http://youtube.com/watch?v=VkgZS0NVIPI

okay, so on to the tape. first thing you notice about this cat is his distinct voice. its real deep, sounds like he should probably be southern but he's from jersey so go figure. needlz kills the production on the first song. 2nd song is the single from his album (supposedly summer 07) and i could def hear it on the radio. 3rd song is another thing that could be on the radio. i can picture lloyd banks spitting garbage over the beat on mtv now. thank god someone who didnt forget how to rap got this instead, haha. his flow isnt too unique (i think he stole lloyd banks to be honest), overall, but his voice is so he gets points for this. track 7 he singin his own hook and i'm not feelin it. hopefully on a real label some RnB dude can get paid to do that. for a guy who is supposedly a punchline rapper, i havent rewound a single line yet halfway through it. kinda disheartening. life in the city is a def single material song. i'm not sayin it will be but it could be, easily. if he rehashed all these tracks for the retail it would be whack, definitely but at least the dude knows how to pick a beat. that much is very clear. overall the tape is good. it gives a wide range of his abilities i think. i'd say its a 3 outta 5 for a mixtape. look for his album summer 07 on DTP, by which i mean probably winter early 08 because nothing even comes out on time.
